BIRTH IN THE RAW

Birth in the Raw is a branch of D. Meshell Photography that holds a very special place in my heart. I'm Domeanica, the creative photographer and Mom behind the lens. I believe capturing Black Mothers giving birth is important and most of all a burden thats been placed on me. The CDC has found that the infant mortality rate is highest in black mothers. That's why so many are choosing to labor at home rather than in traditional hospitals. If we are laboring in hospitals we prefer a team surrounding us that looks like us and will fight for us. We are underserved and often times ignored.

As a Mother, I have learned to cherish every moment. My first birth photography session was 3 months after my husband and I lost our son, Zane Amir, at 33 weeks gestation. It was painful, but God continues to honor him by giving beauty for my ashes through my lens. Seeing the beauty of life allowed healing to take place. God is the faithful Creator. Every birth captured in my raw allows me to celebrate life.
